RMA REMEMBRANCE CEREMONIES – GIBRALTAR 2012

Every year the Royal Marines commemorate the capture of the Rock of Gibraltar, in an amphibious assault, on the 24th of July 1704 by Engligh and Dutch Marines, who after capturing the Town, withheld a prolonged siege from October 1704 to April 1705, thereby achieving 'immortal glory' according to commentators at the time. 'Gibraltar' became the only one of many battle honours that the Royal Marines include in their 'Globe and Laurel' insignia when, in 1827, George IV ordered them to wear it with pride.

Cardboard Racers Float Their Boats

The now infamous annual Gibraltar Cardboard Boat Race took place on Saturday 15 September in hot late summer sunshine.  A large crowd looked on as the sailors tackled the Ocean Village Marina course - some staying far drier than others. A Voyage For “Pickle” to Relish

Later this year, the glamorous superyachts at Gibraltar’s Ocean Village will have some competition on their hands in the shape of HMS Pickle. The 73ft twin-masted tall ship, an exact replica of the 1799-built original, will become a permanent fixture and tourist attraction for the marina. 161 Boats Sail from Ocean Village for the Jubilee Flotilla

On Monday 4th June 2012 Ocean Village Marina became the focus of Gibraltar’s Jubilee events when the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Flotilla congregated at Ocean Village Marina Gibraltar before setting out on a celebratory circuit of the Rock. Russians On The Rock Celebrate in Ocean Village

To celebrate International Women's Day a charity event is being held at a restaurant in Ocean Village. The event – organised by Rock Russians, a group representing the Russian community in Gibraltar – will be held at Ipanema restaurant on Friday 9th March 2012 in Gibraltar. Congratulations to our Prize Draw Winner

Congratulations to Mr R Dempster who entered our competition to win a free weekend in Gibraltar held at the recent London International Boat Show. The prize includes flights from the UK, accommodation in a luxury serviced apartment, champagne dinner in the marina as well as a fabulous cruise aboard Ocean Odyssey. A total of nearly 500 people entered the competition which was drawn in the Head Office of Ocean Village on 31st January 2012.

It was another successful year for Ocean Village Marina at the London International Boat Show, opened this year by Tamara Ecclestone. Held in London from 6th to the 15th of January 2012 the show brings together sailing enthusiasts from every corner of the marine world - in one day we could speak to not only to a classic yacht owner but then to the owner of one of the world's most hi-tech catamarans and then to the owner of a superyacht looking for a new berth.
